TOWNWIDE PROPERTY DATA VERIFICATION PROGRAM CONTINUES
Following up on a mandate from the State Department of Revenue, the Assessing Department will continue a Town wide property data verification program. The purpose of this program is to improve the accuracy of the Town’s assessed values by updating the Assessing Department’s database with the most accurate property description data possible.
The program will be carried out by experienced property inspectors who currently provide similar services to the other cities/towns. The Data Collectors carry an official photo identification card issued by the Assessing Department. Homeowners are asked to examine this identification card before allowing entry into the home. Those who wish to do so can confirm the data verification representative's identification information by calling either the Saugus Police Department (781-941-1199) or the Assessors' Department (781-231-4130).
The data verification process will begin with a walk-through of the interior of the home. Homeowners are asked to accompany the data verification representative during this process. At the completion of the interior inspection, the data verification representative will proceed to perform a verification of the property’s exterior features and measurements.
If a person eighteen years or older is not at home, the data verification representative will leave a notice requesting that the homeowner make an appointment by calling the Assessing Department. If an appointment is not made, it will be necessary to estimate information about the property. By cooperating in this process as they have done in the past, property owners will both serve their own best interest and will contribute to the accuracy and fairness of the Town’s assessed values.
