To the Editor:
It is anticipated that the 2008 Town Census will be mailed to each and every household in the Town of Saugus during the last week of December. I implore every household to complete and return these forms as soon as possible, as it is extremely important that we get a complete and accurate census count for 2008. Without accurate numbers, the town will lose out on desperately needed state aide for our schools, Chapter 90 funding to help improve our roads and highways, and support for many other essential services from our state and federal government.
Individuals who do not respond to the census may deprive themselves the proof of residency required for aide when applying for a state college, or veterans may lose their eligibility for the “Welcome Home” bonus, which they have so valiantly earned.
Every household, apartment unit, and condominium should respond to the census. The information obtained in this office will not be forwarded to any other town department and will have no adverse consequence upon landlords or tenants alike.
It should also be noted that registered voters who do not return their census forms may be taken off the “active” voters list, whereby identification and proof of residency will be required at the polls during the upcoming 2008 Presidential Elections.
Thanks to the efforts of responsible residents, the cooperation of various town departments, and the diligence of my staff, the Town Clerk’s Office has been able to increase our census number by over 2,000 during 2007. However, we still find ourselves short of Federal Census figures. Therefore, with the help and continued cooperation of the citizens of Saugus, it is the goal of this office to have every individual included in these very important population figures.
If you do not receive a census form by the second week in January or have any questions or comments, please call the Town Clerk’s Office at 781-231-4101 and we will be happy to assist you.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation in this matter.
