The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms and flooding beginning on March 12, 2010, and continuing.
The president's action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Bristol, Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk, and Worcester counties. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.
Federal funding is available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for all counties within the state.
Saugus residents are eligible for federal assistance. There are 2 ways to apply:
By phone: 1-800-621-FEMA(3362) Residents will be asked to input their zip code, given instructions and eventually transferred to a FEMA representative who will assist them with the application. Callers should have a pen & paper ready, and be prepared to give information such as the date of loss, their name, social security number, address, telephone number, gross household income, and insurance information. The application will take approx. 20-30 minutes.
