History

The Saugus Affordable Housing Committee was created by the annual town meeting on May 22, 2006.  The purpose of the committee was to recommend by-laws and other initiatives designed to increase the town’s stock of affordable housing.  The committee was appointed by the Town Moderator and had a responsibility to report back to the annual town meeting of 2007.

At the annual town meeting of June 2007 the affordable housing committee reported back to town meeting to accept the provisions of MGLs chapter 44 section 55C establishing a trust to be known as the Town of Saugus Affordable Housing Trust Fund whose purpose shall be to provide for the creation and preservation of affordable housing in the Town of Saugus for the benefit of low and moderate income households, and in implementation thereof  it voted to amend the Saugus general bylaws by adding section 515.00 "Town of Saugus Affordable Housing Trust Fund".
