SAUGUS MA, January 13, 2023 - The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (Mass DEP) has banned mattresses and box springs from the waste stream and is now requiring them to be recycled per State Law as of November 1, 2022. Effective on Monday, October 31,2022, mattresses and box springs will no longer be collected with the Town’s curbside trash collection and do not qualify as a bulk item due to the State’s new ban.

If you are buying new, we recommend checking with the retailer to see if they will recycle your old one.

You can donate mattresses in good condition (we recommend a quick google search to find donation sites). For a full list of organizations that accept mattresses and box springs please visit:

The Town of Saugus has assembled a list of vendors below, we do not have a direct business arrangement with any of the vendors listed. The vendors listed have indicated that they follow Massachusetts DEP regulations. Please find an authorized vendor (see list below) to take your mattress, consider donating or gifting mattresses in good condition.
