Saugus Compost Site Will Accept Branches at No Cost to Residents Following Hurricane

(Saugus, MA) September 24, 2018 – The Town of Saugus would like to announce that the community’s compost site, located behind the Department of Public Works at 515 Main Street, will accept branches for the next two weeks at no cost to residents following the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.

Hurricane Florence swept through Saugus last week, causing high winds, power outages, and downed limbs. The Town of Saugus would like to accommodate residents who need to dispose of any downed limbs by allowing them access to the compost site without a sticker and free of charge.

Residents may dispose of branches at the site on the following days: Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018; Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018; Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018; and Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018.

Typically, the compost site does not accept branches or limbs larger than three inches in diameter. An exception has been made through October 6, 2018 in order to assist the residents of Saugus following the storm.

Residents must obtain a compost site sticker in order to dispose of any items other than branches. Stickers may be purchased for $25 at the Department of Public Works, and the Inspectional Services Department located on the lower level of Town Hall, 298 Central Street. Stickers may also be purchased at the compost site, by check only.

Please contact Solid Waste/Recycling Coordinator Lorna Cerbone at 781-231-4036 with any questions.
