Town Manager Scott C. Crabtree Invites Residents, Town Officials to Attend Unveiling of Brand-New Saugus Fire Engine at Open House

(Saugus, MA) October 10, 2018 – Town Manager Scott C. Crabtree and Fire Chief Michael Newbury are pleased to invite Saugus children, residents, Town officials, employees, and business owners to attend an unveiling ceremony for the Town’s brand-new fire engine on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 10 a.m., at the Fire Department’s Open House.

The new fire engine will be stationed outside the Saugus Fire Department at the Public Safety Building, located at 27 Hamilton Street, Saugus, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the Open House.

The new engine was supported and approved by the Board of Selectmen, Finance Committee, and Town Meeting during last year’s budget process as part of an ongoing effort to make continued public safety and capital improvements throughout the community.

This $695,000 investment, which will replace a 22-year-old engine, will continue to prioritize the safety of the residents of Saugus and the Town’s first responders.

“The Board of Selectmen, Fire Chief, and I are absolutely thrilled to invite everyone to attend this unveiling for the residents of Saugus to view and enjoy the Town’s brand-new fire engine,” said Town Manager Crabtree. “I encourage children, parents, Town officials, and residents to take a few minutes out of their busy schedules to come to the Fire Department’s Open House on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help us celebrate this exciting new public safety response vehicle that will dramatically benefit the community and its residents for years to come.”

This Pierce 1250 G.P.M Pumper built on an Enforcer chassis was designed specifically for the Town of Saugus based on the Town’s and Fire Department’s needs and goals. It is fully furnished with all the necessary tools and equipment, including hoses, nozzles, breathing apparatus, a hydrant wrench, a lock removal kit, a voice-amplifying communication system, various extinguishers, and much more.

The Board of Selectmen, Finance Committee, and Town Meeting demonstrated its support for this important community investment last year during the 2017 Annual Town Meeting, when members voted in favor of the new fire engine as part of the Town’s priorities and overall identified capital infrastructure needs.

“I would like to thank the Board of Selectmen, Finance Committee, Town Meeting, and residents of Saugus for their continued support of these important community initiatives,” concluded Town Manager Crabtree.

The Fire Department’s Open House runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018, and is located outside the Fire Department at the Public Safety Building, 27 Hamilton Street, Saugus. The Open House, which commemorates October as National Fire Safety Month, is aimed at teaching families fire safety and prevention practices, such as “stop, drop and roll,” planning escape routes, and how to crawl safely through a smoke filled room.

Papa Gino’s will also provide free pizza and children’s fire safety coloring sheets at the event.
