Town of Saugus Update Regarding COVID-19 - March 26, 2020

March 26, 2020 - This week, Governor Baker announced at a press conference that all public and private schools and all non-emergency day care centers will be closed until Monday, May 4th. Earlier this week, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced a two week, “stay at home” advisory for all residents of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on March 23, 2020 to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Grocery Stores, pharmacies, medical facilities and gas stations will remain open.

The Town of Saugus is urging residents to follow the Governor’s Order and stay home to help us slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community. The number of confirmed cases in Saugus, Essex County, Massachusetts and the country continues to increase steadily as more individuals are tested.

As of Wednesday March 25, 2020, the Town of Saugus Health Department has received active confirmation from the MDPH that the Town has 8 positive cases of COVID19.  The Health Department is actively investigating and following up on these cases. The Saugus Health Department strongly believes that additional unrecognized cases DO exist in Town as does in the County, State, and Country. Due to the fact that they are undetected, some of these infected individuals may not be properly isolated or quarantined, which is why the Health Department continues to strongly request that everyone practice diligent social distancing and avoid large gatherings and to follow the guidelines set up by the MDPH and CDC.

The Town is here for its residents and urges anyone in need of assistance or has any questions to please contact the Saugus Health Department at 781-231-4117 or the Town Manager’s Office at 781-231-4111.
