Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness-Climate Adaption and Resilience Plan

Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan

Saugus Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan

The Town of Saugus was awarded funding to complete the Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan through the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Action Grant program funded through the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. The MVP Action Grant supports municipalities in advancing priority climate adaptation actions to address climate change impacts resulting from extreme weather, sea level rise, inland and coastal flooding, severe heat, and other climate impacts.

The Town became eligible for this funding through their certification as an MVP community and completion of the MVP Planning Grant process in May of 2021. Through the MVP planning process, Saugus identified the community’s top hazards and made recommendations to improve resilience. The full MVP Planning report can be downloaded here. The Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan will build on recent efforts, including the MVP Planning process, Drainage Master Plan and Hazard Mitigation Plan, to:

Assess risk and vulnerability due to Saugus’ top hazards identified in the planning process (flood, heat, severe storms, and drought)

Examine and communicate how the impacts of these hazards can be reduced through investment in adaptation

Recommend next steps to reduce risk and build resilience in Saugus
