Town of Saugus Announces New Items Accepted at Compost/Drop-Off Recycle Site

(Saugus, MA) June 21, 2016 – The Town of Saugus is pleased to announce that the Compost/Drop-Off Recycle Site will begin accepting fluorescent lamps and other mercury-bearing items, car tires, and textile recycling as of July 2, 2016.

  • Fluorescent Lamps: Bulbs must be given to an attendant/employee on the site, who will then place them in the shed. There is no fee to recycle fluorescent bulbs.
  • Other Mercury-Bearing Items: The site will now accept thermostats, thermometers, mercury switches, and button cell batteries. All items should be given to an attendant/employee, who will then place them in the shed. There is no fee to recycle these items.
  • Car Tires: Residents may now recycle car tires up to 22 inches for $3 each. Tires any larger than 22 inches will not be accepted. Items should be given to an attendant/employee with a check payable to “The Town of Saugus.”
  • Textile Recycling: Saugus residents can now recycle books, CDs, clothes, bedding, curtains, belts, purses, backpacks, and shoes by depositing them in the textile box. Items that are old, have holes, or buttons missing will be accepted.

No wet or moldy items will be accepted.
