Town Manager Scott C. Crabtree Announces the Middle-High School Project Receives MSBA Approval

MSBA

(Saugus, MA) June 29, 2017 – Town Manager Scott C. Crabtree and the Saugus High School Project Building Committee are pleased to announce that the project scope and budget for the new Middle-High School has been approved by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), and the Town is now preparing to execute a funding agreement with the MSBA. From there, the Town will proceed to the Design Development phase of the project.

During their Board Meeting on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, the MSBA voted unanimously to approve the Town’s project scope and budget.

District representatives from Saugus attended the meeting to show their support for the project and thank the MSBA. Those present included Town Manager Crabtree, School Committee and Building Committee Chair Jeannie Meredith, Superintendent of Schools Dr. David DeRuosi, and Saugus High School Principal Mike Hashem.  Owner’s Project Manager PMA Consultants and designer HMFH Architects were also in attendance. Representatives were given an opportunity to discuss the project and emphasize its important within the community.

State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg, chair of the Massachusetts School Building Authority commended Town Manager Crabtree on his extensive knowledge of the project and education plan in addition to budgeting information. It is not typical that a Town Manager or Mayor touches upon the education plan, Goldberg noted. Goldberg also commended the Town’s enthusiasm, which she noted based on the strong support of the voters within the community.

“It is very exciting to have gotten final project approval from the MSBA,” said Town Manager Crabtree. “We are extremely grateful to the residents of Saugus, the PTOS, the MSBA, Board of Selectmen, School Committee, Town Meeting, Finance Committee, and all others for their support. A special thank you to Jeannie Meredith, Chair of the School Committee and Saugus Building Committee, for all of her hard work and leadership as an elected volunteer in guiding the School Committee and Building Committee as through this initiative from the ground level to the final MSBA approval. Parents and the community as a whole should be thrilled with her continued and sustained advocacy for the children within the school district and the Town of Saugus.”

“This extremely important Town-wide initiative will continue to prioritize education within the community, as well as benefit the children and residents for decades to come,” concluded Crabtree.
