(Saugus, MA) April 10, 2019 – Town Manager Scott C. Crabtree, the Board of Selectmen, the School Committee, and the Saugus High School Project Building Committee are pleased to announce that the students and school and Town officials of Saugus will have an opportunity to sign a steel beam on Saturday, April 13, 2019 as part of the Topping Off Ceremony for the new, grades 6-12 MSBA Saugus Middle-High School. This is an opportunity for students and school and Town officials who are not able to sign the beam on Friday, April 12, 2019 to participate.

Students and school and Town officials are invited to sign their name on the beam, which will later be raised onto the new school, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2019. This historic occasion is part of a long-standing custom that celebrates the construction process and is viewed as the first introduction of the building to the public.

The event will be located at the Saugus Middle-High School construction site on Pearce Memorial Drive. All attendees should park in the Upper Parking Lot, located to the left as you enter Pearce Memorial Drive. Guests will then be directed to Gate A for the signing.

“We wanted to provide a second opportunity for the students and school and Town officials of Saugus to participate in the Topping Off Ceremony, which is being held on Friday, April 12 at 11 a.m.,” said Town Manager Crabtree. “Inviting students to an additional signing of the beam on Saturday, April 13th gives everyone the chance to participate and celebrate this historic milestone in the process of building a new, grades 6-12 MSBA Saugus Middle-High School that was strongly supported by the residents of Saugus.”

The Topping Off ceremony and event with State officials and construction workers will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Middle-High School construction site on Pearce Memorial Drive. The second event on Saturday, April 13, 2019 is an opportunity for students and school and Town officials to get involved.

The Town Manager, Board of Selectmen, School Committee, and Building Committee encourage Saugus students and school and Town officials to come out and be part of this milestone celebration.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the completion of the steel structure of our future Middle-High School project, as it is another exciting landmark that brings us one step closer to providing a new, 21st century learning environment for our community’s children,” said Jeannie Meredith, Chair of the School Committee and Building Committee. “I hope to see many of the Saugus students there on Saturday, April 13th.”

“This project will dramatically benefit the community and its residents for decades to come, so this milestone event is one you won’t want to miss,” concluded Town Manager Crabtree.
