Town Manager Scott C. Crabtree, Board of Selectmen Announce Arrival of Four New Police Cruisers, Two Rough Terrain Vehicles

New Police Cruisers

(Saugus, MA) November 2, 2019 – Town Manager Scott C. Crabtree and the Board of Selectmen are pleased to announce the addition of four brand-new police cruisers to the Saugus Police Department’s patrol fleet, and two new rough terrain vehicles that will be utilized by the Department of Public Works, Building Maintenance Department, and Public Safety.

The fully-furnished public safety vehicles arrived earlier this week. Residents can expect to see the cruisers and the rough terrain vehicles in use in the weeks to come.

The new patrol vehicles and rough terrain vehicles were supported and approved by the Board of Selectmen, Finance Committee, and Town Meeting as part of an ongoing effort to make continued public safety and capital improvements throughout the community.

This investment in new police cruisers will allow the Police Department to replace current line cars with high mileage or that require frequent maintenance. The four 2019 Ford Police Interceptor Utility V6 All-Wheel Drive vehicles are fully marked and equipped with the latest technology, computers, radio communication, and secure vaults for equipment storage.

This investment in rough terrain vehicles will provide the Town with safe, reliable equipment to more efficiently and effectively access the Rail Trail, clear snow from public ways, and many other uses for DPW, Building Maintenance, and Public Safety departments. The two 2019 Kubota X1100 4x4 rough terrain vehicles are both outfitted with a 66-inch commercial snow blower, a 78-inch V-blade snowplow, and a boss V-box salt spreader.

“The Board of Selectmen and I are thrilled to announce the arrival of these new public safety vehicles to our Town, its patrol fleet, and our Department of Public Works and Building Maintenance department,” said Town Manager Crabtree. “This investment will continue to prioritize the safety of the residents of Saugus and the Town’s emergency responders.”

The Board of Selectmen, Finance Committee, and Town Meeting demonstrated its support for this important community investment during this year’s budget process, when members voted in favor of the new cruisers and rough terrain vehicles   as part of the Town’s priorities and overall identified capital infrastructure needs.

“I would like to thank the Board of Selectmen, Finance Committee, Town Meeting, and residents of Saugus for their continued support of important public safety equipment investments such as this,” said Town Manager Crabtree. “Public safety vehicles that are used on a daily, high-demand, high-performance basis should be fully functional and safe. We are proud to provide that for our public servants and community.”
